This was supposed to be an introductory speech for Public Speaking (on line) at Washburn University, 2012. I was not happy with the speech (which I did not write) and ultimately wound up poking fun at it with my setting. Background music is "Glider" by Bill Conti from THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. Obviously I do NOT own the rights to the music, and no copyright infringement is intended for this school project.
"Scene21" - DIGITAL EDITING Assigned as an editing exercise for Digital Editing & Theory, 2012 Washburn University while learning the Avid editing software. All footage was pre-existing, all I did was edit it.
"Canned Corned Beef" - DIGITAL EDITING Assigned as a simple competence test of our ability to import and use Avid for Digital Editing & Theory 2012 Washburn University. I took it one step further and created a short little film just to make fun of the last assignment. (We all hated dealing with the "canned corned beef in the cabinet" line in "Scene 21".
Here are a few shots composed for Digital Cinematography 2012, Washburn University. (Not sure I'm sold on the DSLR cameras yet).
Also for Digital Cinematography 2012, Washburn University, we were assigned a series of photos and had to recreate the look of the photo as nearly as we could in video. The pics were black and white while the videos were color, so we had to deal with things like color temperature and the like. Here's a few of what I consider to be the best of the 10 assigned... Background music is "Discombobulate" by Hans Zimmer from SHERLOCK HOLMES. Obviously I do NOT own the copyright to it, and no infringement is intended for this school project.
"Smithee's Lecture" My edit - DIGITAL EDITING Assigned for Digital Editing & Theory, 2012 Washburn University. All the footage for this film was pre-existing, our job was to edit it into a half hour motion picture using Avid.
"Smithee's Lecture Trailer" - DIGITAL EDITING Assigned as an extra-credediting exercise for Digital Editing & Theory, 2012 Washburn University while learning the Avid editing software. All footage was pre-existing, all I did was edit it.
TriBODS War Of The Worlds Trailer - On Halloween 2012 the Washburn University Student Film Society TriBODS hosted a replay of Orson Welles infamous broadcast of "The War Of The Worlds". This is a trailer I made to help promote both the club and the event. (No copyright infringement intended.)
So Long Solo Recap - Washburn Review. During the Spring 2013 semester at Washburn University, I worked for student media. This is a video article/interview I wrote, filmed and edited for the Review Website featuring the music of So Long Solo. No copyright infringement is intended.
Computers In The Ichabod Shop - Washburn Review. During the Spring 2013 semester at Washburn University, I worked for student media. This is a video article I wrote, filmed and edited for the Review Website.
Comedian Chad Daniels Disarms, Charms Campus - Washburn Review. During the Spring 2013 semester at Washburn University, I worked for student media. This is a video article/interview I wrote, filmed and edited for the Review Website featuring the comedy of Chad Daniels. No copyright infringement is intended.
Photo Storyboards - Here's a quick down and dirty look at some photo storyboards done for an assignment for Digital Filmmaking 2, Washburn University Spring Semester. These represent one possible way I would shoot the short film, "Lesbian Bandits". (Don't judge, it was also an assignment.) I find this kind of assignment to be not as helpful as you would think, because frequently when I get to my actual location, I see a shot set up different than the one I had in mind, or my Cinematographer or crew gives me an even better one.
Ext. street scene, day. KYRA's mustang convertible sits parked across the street from the first national bank. JACKY sits in the passenger seat, nervously looking at the passers by. The streets are busy with people, the lunch rush in full swing.
KYRA walks into frame, a blanket in her arms. She enters the car, and tosses the bundle into JACKY's lap. JACKY pulls the cloth back to reveal a shiny magnum hand pistol, it's steel barrel glinting in the harsh overhead sun. JACKY reaches out to touch the barrel with a tentative finger, tracing it's smooth, hard shaft as if she were a hesitant lover. She hefted the gun in her other hand, checking the balance and weight of the weapon. KYRA: What do you think? JACKY: (hesitates) It's... unexpected. KYRA: Is that a yes? JACKY plays with the gun a moment longer before answering. JACKY: It's not anything. KYRA: (disgusted) Right. She turns away from JACKY and faces the bank. The two sit in silence for a moment, the tension building. People avoid the car, almost as if they can feel the emotion filling up the Mustang and overflowing it's sides onto the sidewalk. JACKY hefts the gun one more time. JACKY: Now what? KYRA: (huffs) Nothing. A moment passes. JACKY sets the gun down and leans over the gear shift. She takes her KYRA's face in her hands and kisses her, deeply. KYRA doesn't respond at first, but soon melts to the passion. The tension between them fades, and suddenly passers-by are interested in the car again. JACKY: I'm sorry. KYRA looks at her, then across the street at the bank. She looks back and JACKY nods. KRYA: Just stay focused. The two women exit the car, and cross the street against traffic to the bank. They pause just outside the door. JACKY: Do you really want to do this? KYRA: (nods) Let's go. They enter the bank. |
GoPro Adventures - Just playing with my new GoPro. Threw some background music in there for fun, Turning Japanese by the Vapors, which I do not own.
Film At Eleven, "Hollywood Cars" - So through my job in creative services at WIBW, we got wind that Film At Eleven was looking for a "super bowl style" super bowl spot. Mel and I watched a ton of old memorable spots and realized to be memorable you either have to be funny, or sexy. Since Christie Brinkley is not likely to come shoot a commercial for me, we decided on funny, going with celebrity cars. The concept, writing, casting, (and some acting) is by me, while Dave shot and edited this. They loved it, and it did air locally during the big game.
